European Roulette

European Roulette is a popular classic casino game, characterised by its single-zero wheel and favourable odds for players. The odds of winning in this game are higher, as this wheel doesn’t have double zero (00). This game remains a favourite among Indian players at Casino Days due to its straightforward rules and low house edge. The themes and features include Autoplay, Dynamic Billboard, Favorite Bets, Hot and Cold numbers, Racetrack, and a Special bets panel.

How to Play European Roulette?

To play European Roulette, it's crucial to understand the rules, structure, betting options, and basic strategies. The wheel features 37 pockets numbered from 0 to 36. It has a small house edge because there is only one zero. As for the betting table, it is divided into sections for inside and outside bets, and players have to place their chips on the sections to indicate their wagers.

European Roulette Betting Options and Payouts

This table game has different possibilities, each with varying odds and payouts. There are 5 types of inside and outside bets that can be made when playing European Roulette online.

Inside Bets

Inside bets are placed on certain numbers or little clusters of numbers on the roulette table. They have a smaller likelihood of winning but usually have a larger payout. The Inside bets are the following:

  • Straight Up: Can be placed on any number including 0, and the payout is 35:1.
  • Split: Can be placed on the borderline of neighbouring two numbers, and the payout is 17:1.
  • Street: Placed on three numbers on the left or right vertical side beside the numbers, and the payout is 11:1.
  • Corner and Basket: Placed on four numbers on the crisscross line, and the payout is 8:1 for both.
  • Six Line: Placed on the line near the chosen 6 numbers, and the payout is 5:1.

Outside Bets

Outside bets cover larger groups of numbers and typically have a higher probability of winning, but lower payouts compared to inside bets. They are recommended for beginners, as they are simpler to understand, and can increase winning chances. The Outside bets include the following:

  • Column: 12 numbers and the payout is 2:1.
  • Dozen: 12 numbers and the payout is 2:1.

Even Money Bets

Compared to other bet types, the Even Money bets give players a better chance of winning, as they cover about half of the numbers on the wheel.

  • Black/Red: You place chips on the red or black field (your choice), and the payout is 1:1.
  • Even/Odd: You place a bet on even or odd numbers, and the payout is 1:1.
  • High/Low: This bet is known as Manque/Passe (1-18 or 19-36) and the payout is 1:1.

Special Bets in European Roulette

The European Roulette wheel game originated in the 18th century in France, which is why it has some French bets as well. There are several such bets, but they are rarely offered at online casinos.

Neighbours

With its two neighbours on either side, this wager bookends any selected number, and it requires five chips.

Voisins du Zéro

The name translates to “neighbours of zero” and it requires nine chips. The voisins bet covers the seventeen numbers that are the closest to 0 on the single-zero wheel.

Le Tiers Du Cylindre

The tiers bet covers 12 numbers on the wheel that are opposite to the voisins bet, and it refers to the French expression that means “thirds of the wheel”. It requires six chips.

Les Orphelins

This bet translates to “orphans” and it requires five chips. It covers the two slices of the wheel between the voisins and tiers bets.

Additional Rules of European Roulette

Some European casinos feature an imprisonment rule that states that even money bets that finish at zero, will remain on the field “En Prison” until the next round. The game is lost if the ball lands on zero again in the next round, but if your stake “En Prison” wins, you will get your initial amount back. Another possible rule is “La Partage”, which allows the player to keep half of the even money stake if the ball lands at zero.

Tips and Strategies for Playing European Roulette

There aren’t any strategies that will guarantee you a consistent win. However, some strategies will enhance your gameplay and improve your chances of winning.

Martingale Strategy

If you are using this strategy, then remember to double your bet after each loss. Although this method can recover losses rapidly, it is risky and needs a substantial bankroll.

D’Alembert Strategy

Following a loss, raise your wager by one unit, and following a victory, lower it by one. Compared to the Martingale strategy, this one is less forceful and aids in risk management.

Paroli Strategy

Before returning to the original stake, double your bet after each win for up to three consecutive wins. This strategy minimises losses while taking advantage of winning streaks.

European Roulette FAQ

Can I Use the Same Strategies for both European and American Roulette?

Some strategies can be adapted for both games, however, due to the extra zero in the American version, it’s advisable to try out another strategy.

Is There a Guaranteed Way to Win at European Roulette?

No, there is no guaranteed way to win in roulette. The game is based purely on luck, and while strategies can improve your odds, they won’t eliminate randomness.

What is the Best Betting Strategy?

The best betting strategy will depend on your risk tolerance and playing style. Betting on even money options (e.g. red/black) is safer due to the higher chances of winning.
